An Honest Guide to Floral Preservation

When Is the Right Time to Purchase and Send Your Flowers?

By Sarah Ebert, CEO & Founder

Order now, ship your blooms when you're ready.

When should I order? How should I send my flowers?

We get these questions often, and we want to answer them clearly. While there is no wrong time to purchase, we find that ordering before your event can prevent a lot of stress. What matters the most is understanding when and how to ship your blooms. We'll walk you through it all!

Purchasing: Whenever Makes Sense for You

You can place your order at any point—months before your event, the week of, or even after. We do not hold reservations, so there is no window you need to hit. Your spot in our queue is secured when you purchase, and your blooms follow when you're ready to send them.

For clients who are planning ahead, this is worth knowing: purchasing early means one less thing on your plate when the event arrives. You won't need to scramble to find a preservation shop or figure out next steps in the days following. The order is already placed, and all that's left is shipping your blooms to us.

If you're adding a Bloom Box to your order, we'll automatically hold it until approximately one month before your event date, so you don't need to store it in the meantime. Just let us know your event date at the time of purchase and we'll coordinate from there.

No commitment to ship until you're ready.

Shipping Your Blooms: Timing Matters Here

While purchasing is flexible, shipping your blooms has a tighter window. We ask that blooms arrive at our shop within five days of your event. This gives us the best possible starting point for preservation—the fresher the bloom the better suited they are for preservation.

That said, we understand that the days following a wedding, a funeral, or a meaningful event are not always straightforward. We have worked with blooms up to ten days old depending on how they were stored and the specific flower types involved. If you are outside of the five-day window and unsure whether your blooms are still viable, reach out before you ship. We would rather talk through it with you than have you send something that won't press well.

If you're not shipping immediately after your event, keeping your blooms in water and away from direct sunlight will help preserve their condition. Avoid storing them in a hot car, near a heat source, or anywhere with extreme temperature fluctuation. The goal is to keep them as close to their fresh state as possible until they are packaged and on their way to us.

A Note on Condition Upon Arrival

The quality of your preservation depends in part on the condition of your blooms when they reach us. Age, moisture content, packaging, and transit conditions all play a role. We are experienced in working with blooms in a range of states, and our preservation team will assess each flower individually and work with what is viable.

If you have Bloom Protection on your order, we are able to supplement your arrangement with inventory pressed blooms should any of your florals arrive in a condition that prevents full preservation. It's an add-on worth considering, particularly if your blooms will be traveling a long distance or in warm weather.

If you have any questions about timing, storage, or whether your blooms are in good shape to ship, please reach out to our team. We are always happy to advise before you send anything.
