How Do I Care for My Pressed Floral Frame?

An Honest Guide to Floral Preservation

How Do I Care for My Pressed Floral Frame?

Care for Your Pressed Floral Piece So It Lasts a Lifetime.

A pressed floral piece is designed to last. The materials we use, the UV-protective glass, the acid-free backing, the professional framing standards, are all chosen with longevity in mind.

Whether you've just received your frame or are still deciding, this guide covers everything you need to know about displaying and maintaining your piece so that it ages as gracefully as possible.

The Single Most Important Factor: Light

Sunlight is the most significant accelerator of color change in preserved florals. UV rays break down the natural pigments in your blooms at a much faster rate than they would age in a stable, low-light environment. Even indirect light, over a long period of time, will contribute to gradual fading and warming of color.

Every Pressed Floral piece is fitted with UV-protective glass, which filters out a significant portion of harmful UV rays and meaningfully slows this process. That glass is doing important work, but it works best when paired with thoughtful placement.

The ideal location for your piece is a wall that receives ambient or artificial light rather than direct sun exposure. Interior hallways and rooms with filtered or diffused natural light are all good candidates.

Heat Sources

Heat affects preserved florals in two ways: it can accelerate the natural breakdown of pigment and impact the structural integrity of the blooms, leading to increased fragility.

We recommend avoiding placement near or above heat sources such as fireplaces, heat vents, radiators, and appliances that generate warmth, particularly in kitchen or dining spaces.

Humidity and Moisture

Preserved florals have had their moisture content removed during the pressing process, and reintroducing humidity can affect both the blooms and the frame over time.

Avoid displaying your piece in bathrooms, in kitchens with high steam exposure, or in basements and spaces with known moisture issues. A climate stable room with consistent temperature and moderate humidity is the ideal environment.

Most standard living spaces, bedrooms, and home offices make the perfect place to display your frame.

Cleaning and Handling

The exterior of your frame can be dusted gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid spraying anything directly on or near the frame, especially cleaners that include harsh chemicals.

If your glass needs cleaning, use a dry or very lightly dampened soft cloth and wipe gently. Avoid pressing hard on the glass, and never spray glass cleaner directly onto the surface, apply any cleaner to the cloth first, then wipe.

When moving or rehanging your piece, handle it from the frame rather than the glass. Keep the piece upright rather than laying it flat for extended periods.

We recommend keeping your frame sealed, as it plays an important role in protecting your blooms over time. Opening the frame can expose the florals to air and moisture, which may affect their preservation. If anything inside your frame ever needs attention, please reach out to our team first. We’re always happy to guide you on the best next step.

Long-Term Aging

Even with ideal care, your piece will age over time. Colors will continue to soften and warm gradually, and your blooms will develop the kind of patina that natural materials develop over years. This is not a flaw, it is the nature of organic preservation, and it is something we believe in. You can read more about Color Change and Aging here.

We designed your piece to be passed down. The care you give it now is part of that story.
